I have a 1967 Peshtigo Sea Coaster that is almost finished after nine years(!).
I'm trying to disassemble the steering wheel assembly, and cannot get the cap in the center of the wheel off. It does not unscrew and there is no retaining ring in sight. Does it just pop off? (Have tried to pry it off but so far no luck). Any advice appreciated, as I don't want to destroy it as I figure out how it's supposed to work.
Thanks very much.

Re: Disassemble steering wheel?
on my Cortland boat the center cap pops right off, underneath is a bolt on a threaded shaft. Took that off, and discovered that that wheel will NOT come off unless I want to destroy it. Tried a few different wheel pullers, etc. No Go,

Re: Disassemble steering wheel?
Peter, i had to break mine down from the backside. Used air rivet gun to break loose. Never did get wheel off...painted still on shaft.
Re: Disassemble steering wheel?
For future reference, the cap on this model twists off (there is a small machine screw on the underside of the center of the cap, which threads into the center of the shaft of the steering column).
