What's recommended for covering the flooring? I want to cover what I think is Masonite. Thanks for any ideas!

JALL,
The original flooring on the lapstrakes was only painted.
I would be careful of gluing anything on the original flooring. Vinyl will trap mositure and the floor will rot. Also vinyl can be slippery when wet.
I would recommend a good marine paint and you can add anti-slip material to the paint to help eliminate slipperyness.
Those are my thoughts.
Good Luck,
Phill

I have used marine vinyl flooring material from Nautolex. I have used their "Sandstone" colour on a few lapstrake Thompson boats. It works great and looks nice.
I have glued it over plywood and the existing tempered hardboard flooring material. I also wrap it over the edges and back and staple.

Andreas,
The original flooring material "was" a textured masonite, wasn't it? I know it's porous because I can't remove the soaked in fuel stains in mine.

It was a tempered hardboard. Not sure if Masonite was the brand utilized, but Masonite is a tempered hardboard product.
