I've got a Johnson RDSL-20 long shaft motor I'd like to put on a 14' Cruisers Inc Holiday. The boat has a 15" transom. I have a short drive shaft but wonder about the water tubes and the shift rod. Taking the 5" spacer out...does that mean I need to cut 5" off the water tubes and shift rod? Can I file a notch in the shift rod for the coupler screw? Anyone out there accomplished this feat?
Thanks for any help.

I believe that what you will find is the both the shift rod and the water tubes have extentions that mearly have to be removed to get you back to the short tower. No cutting or fileing required.

Drive shaft and shift linkage are more than likely different. They have different part numbers on the 1957 35HP. AOMCI has a site for antique outboards, they know the specifics and the P/N.
