'57 Cruisers Inc max hp ?

Could someone please tell me what the MAX HP would be on a 1957 Cruisers Inc Commodore. Is there a concern about weight on the transom or a max weight the boat could handle? Thank You JIm

Not sure about 1957, but 1959 was max 110 HP with a 1240 pound max capacity.
Looking at the Thompson 1957 catalog their 18 footers where rated at Max 85 HP.

Let see if someone else has the answer from a 1957 Cruisers catalog.

It's not so much the weight, but the speed a given amount of power will produce. Old engine were rated at the crank shaft, new at prop, there is a 10 to 15% difference.

New engines can weight a bunch, old engines were light in comparison.

Also 85 was about as big a engine that was available in 1957, even in twins.

Old furula was lenght x width = x then x-90 = rated hp.

Sadly, there are no HP ratings listed in the 1957 Cruisers, Inc. brochure.

The model 300 Commander with centerline length of 16'-1" in the 1958 brochure was listed at maximum 110 HP. They must have changed the name of the 1957 Commodore model to Commander in 1958. The boats have the same dimensions and specifications, just a new name in 1958.

So, I can conclude that 110 HP was the maximum rating for your 1957 Commodore.

How would one get 110 HP in 1957? OMC's highest HP was 35. Mercury had what????

I have twin 1957 Johnson 35 HP motors on my '57 Thompson of Peshtigo 16'-7" Sea Lancer. The regular motors, not the Javelin version. The boat handels the motors no problem. The boat had a single 1967 Mercury 110 HP from 1967 to 2005 or so.
