Transom Mahogany

I am ready to buy the mahogany for my transom. A local importer has south american and african mahogany. The african is 30% cheaper.
1. Is there a preference to nation of origin?
2. Is there a preferred type of cut ie. quarter sawn.
3. 1x12x12 footers are about $7/ft for SA and $5/ft for african. What is the going cost for this as I have not shopped it. I figure it is a good price as this is a saw mill that imports it, cuts it and then dries it.
