I just sent a 1963 Sea Mate to the crusher at the trash yard. I salvaged anything worth saving.

Ron,
Are you going back with same color deck vinyl? And if so where did you get that color? I have acquired a Sea Mate also and am debating making her my next project and she has same interior, someone redecked her years ago.
Great work cant wait to see her done!

This is my color vinyl. Islander Turqua
http://www.gulffabrics.com/islander.htm
I am not changing the seats at this time and this will look very good.
I also think that the Spinnaker color will be a good match for somone that has a Thompson that has the light blue deck. This Turqua color will go good with the dash too. I debated about this cause the original decking had a weave embossing to it that was not the same as seat vinyl. The boxes under the seats had this same material on it. So if I went with original stuff then the deck will look to dark. For the white I will use the Islander Brillant White.
I get my marine vinyls from Oshkosh Tent and Awning 1-800-861-9341
Ask for Michelle . $18.16 a yard

I just brought home a Cruisers 302. It has the same color scheme. I'll be looking for that covering.
It also has the woven type material on the floor. It's actually in good shape so I'm not changing it.
I'll be posting pictures in a day or two.
Mike
Progress!

Here is a scan of what the Sea Mate would look like if the vinyl decks were changed to varnished wood and dash and seats are changed also.
These basic models were available in the mid 60's. But I have not seen one.
If you find a mid 60's vinyl clad boat and you wish to make it look like one from the 50's. You could go with this concept. I found that people that are new to this hobby wish to see the all wood look. Also if you ever look to sell (e Bay). The all wood deck and interior are worth more. Ilike to go back to the boats original state. Make custom changes only if what you have is to far gone to save. I am keeping my boat in it's vinyl state because I like them that way. (Also family and kids limit my funds.)

One Happy Camper!! I worked on this baby all day! Lots of staples etc. The vinyl was easy to put on. Just takes time. More pictures Saturday!

Ron,
What adhesive did you use? I made the mistake once using a yellow colored adhesive that bled through the vinyl.
Looks great, I also have a boat just like this I am considering making my next project.
Good work!

I had some Nautolex Glue left over from a floor installation. I put down a Nautolex Shark pattern in a Sea Lancer some years back. This is the correct/best stuff to use.( Got it from West Marine catalog. ) As I was doing this job I relalized that I was going to be short. So I switched to the Contact Cement From Lowes. This was also water based . So any glue that was on the wrong side cleaned up easily. Did not bleed through.
You roll it on then let it tac up . ( 30 Minutes ) I had to build up glue on the wood/vinyl. This was because the vinyl was made to cover seats.
Dan, Post a picture of your Sea Mate.
So we can compare.
Cheers
