Repower of 1964 20' Cruisers, Inc. Vacationer model 1502

Post by lapstrakelouie »

The model 1502 is the I/O model of the outboard version. I bought this 1964 model in St. Louis last summer. It had Mercruiser 150 but the outdrive had some problems and I didn't want to rebuilt such an old unit although the engine ran fine, no tilt or trim either. I had good luck with a previous Volvo conversion on my 22' Sea Lane so I tried one with this boat. I found a late 70's Volvo AQ170 C 6 cylinder (170 HP ) on ebay and bought the engine and outdrive. The outdrive was perfect but the engine had a flat cam and bad bearings. After a complete rebuild of the 3 carb engine I am now doing sea trials. Max RPM is 5500 and I am expecting a top speed of close to 40. It's a smooth riding boat and I am beginning to appreciate the Vinyl-Clad boats. Contact me if you have questions or if you attempt the same.
