transom

ok I just got back the boards that were glued together for the face of the transom. Im now in the process of getting things ready to put on the vertical boards, the question is do I leave a space beside each board for expansion and contraction or do I butt the board tight against each other? When I took this apart their was about 1/8inch between each board also the boards had a a slight bevel on each side that faced into the boat. I dont really thing thes boards shrinked this amount in 47 years but anything could happen. Again thanks to all who answer and rember to keep it above water Jim Hays
