Spray rail color?
The spray rails on my 1955 Sea Skiff special, were they originally painted red? when sanding I did get to a layer of red. In the Thompson CD the 1954 catalogue cover shot show's a Sea Skiff which is a dead ringer for my boat, it looks like it could be red or browm? Thanks for any help. Pete
Boats built at Cortland seamed to have different colour paints on the spray rails. I have seen red and baby blue. I suppose it was different for each model??? I just don't know all that much about Cortland built boats.
Boats built at Peshtigo always had the spray rails stained and varnished. It matched the deck and transom windsield frame, etc...

All hail the Cortland boats!
Based on the catalog pictures of my year/model sea lancer, the rails were painted the same color as the hull and capped with a stainless trim piece. All this comment helps you with is that the Cortland boats appear to have had painted rails.

My above comments are WRONG. Or at least a bit inaccurate. Spray rails on the lapstrake boats of the 1950s and 1960s were stained and varnished on Peshtigo built boats.
Spray rails fo the strip-built boats were painted. Red was the most typical colour.
