Texas Winter snow damage

Post by txcaptdan »

We usually don't have much of what you guys up north call winter, but every 10 years or so.... Fort Worth received over 10 inches of snow on Feb 11th, That may not sound like much to those from Michigan but it was more than our Marinas could stand.
The boat houses sank from the weight of the snow and some collapsed.
One of our club members got his 1939 Chris Craft sedan cruiser out of a sinking dock just hours before it collapsed completely.

Many of the docks sank 5ft plus. These photos were supplied by club members. Many boats were OK but could not be gotten to for several days.

Thankfully my boats were on trailers. One week later we have 60s and sunshine. How do you guys put up with this?

txcaptdan,

For one thing we take our boats out of the water before winter hits up here in "God's Country". The other thing is our docks and dock covers are engineered to handle the snow load.

The other thing is we get to act like God in the winter, we can walk on the water in most places and do not need a boat to get where we want to fish. The one disadvatage is that we do have to cut a hole in the hard water to be able to fish. We also get to slide down hills and mountains on board clamped to our feet and ride motor driven sleds and we do not work up to much of a swet. We enjoy our winters and it make the summers and warm weather feel a lot warmer and enjoyable when it comes.

Sorry to see all the damage caused by the storms. Hope all get back to normal soon.

Good Luck,

Phill
