Wood Stain for my C202

Post by rusty »

Hello all.
I am in the process of restoring some Cruisers Inc emblems. I have sent the metal to be re-chromed and I am repairing the original plywood backing. They are in pretty good condition, especially one of them. The other needs a little filling after sanding. Luckily, the worst part to be restored is on the reverse side.
I am having difficulty in finding a matching stain to match the boat. Does anyone know what stain was used on a 1961 C202? On test pieces it all looks too dark, more of an Oak colour rather than a rich 'honey'.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Happy boating.

Have you tried Z-Spar Standard Mahogany?

Hello Andreas.
I have not tried this stain but will now.
I have been looking online to get some but am coming up short. Where have you been getting yours?

Just found it at Jamestown with the brushing thinner.
Many thanks for your advice.

Rusty,

You should be able to get the Z-Spar filler stains at a West Marine Store in your area or any other Marine supply store.

Good Luck,

Phill
