Windshield Removal

Post by thdon »

We have a 1964 Thompson Thomboy, and are restoring the varnish. Can anyone tell me how to remove the aluminum windshield on this boat. Also, the vinyl seams are splitting in a couple of areas. What can be done about that? Thank you.

The windshield frame will be screwed to the deck from the underside of the deck. Also, the side panels will be screwed from above into the deck. You will have to remove the glass on the side panels to access those screws.

The Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. lapstrake Thomboy is shown with a wooden framed windshield in all the brochures. Was yours changed at some previous time? Have you verified the make, model and year of the boat?

The frame of the windshield is wood, the frame for the glass is aluminum. We are trying to remove the aluminum frame.

Ah...open up the aluminum insert and you will find screws attaching it to the inside top of the wood frame. You'll also have to remove the knobs and washers and slide out the arm from the closure mechanism.

OK, found all the screws. Do I gather that the entire unit comes out together, window and aluminum frame?
