cleaning canvas cover

Post by Dan Wolf »

I have a purchased a '61 Sea Coaster with a canvas top. It is an original Thompson canvas for over the Cockpit or at least there is a silk tag sewn to canvas that say Thompson. Anyway the canvas appears in good condition except for a small hole the size of a quarter and some stains. I believe this will clean up nicely but I dont know how. I don't think throwing it in the washing machine is the correct answer. Has someone done this before? Dan

Definitely NOT the washer machine. It would probably get ripped to shreds and shrink too.

Just use some soapy water and a brush. Remove it from the boat, lay it down on your driveway or yard, and get the garden hose out with a bucket and some mild soap and gently scrub.
