Wooden Boat

I just picked up an old wooden boat .

Here is what I found. The fore deck needs to be replaced , the transom is split and although solid needs attention and should be replaced. The windshield dash & topside are solid (seats etc.). All hardware is there.

Should be a learning experience for restoration.

Hey Halcyon!

I'm just up the street from you in Raymond, Maine. I can't really give you any guidance on whether to try and save her or not because everyone's tolerance for pain is different. However, if you do decide to pass up on the job I'd be very interested in the motor.

I would have a hard time starting on a hull with this much damage, you could easily invest 4-6 k in trying to repair this hull. There are too many good hulls around for 1-2K that would require much less structural work and more of the refinish type work. I have seen several 20' Cruisers inc.s go for 2K that only needed cosmetic restoration within the last year.
Some people like the challenge.

By the way, if you DO decide to make a go of this and want any help sanding etc. look me up. It's been a couple of years since I finished my 62' Lancer and I'm going through a bit of withdrawl.

It should be fun learning to replace the keelson and ribs. I will keep you posted. This post has been very helpful with the current project I hope you can talk me through this one.

Ya can never have to many boats! Good to see some Grady-White interest here!

Do the Grady White boats have a serial number or hull ID? If they do, I wonder if they can be deciphered?
