Repairing Lapstrake Edges

Post by gts »

I can understand how to fair hull dings but does anyone have a recommendation for product and method to repair the original 90 degree edge of a lapstrake plank when it's torn or dented? Do you sand first or just remove loose fibers and leave it rough? Would something like aluminum angle stock covered with wax paper help shape the edge? Any preference for structural filler, #27, 3M, surfacing putty for this job?

Clean up and loose fibers and sand. Use a marine filler such as Smith's Fill-It and fill. Let it dry and sand to the desired shape.
