Hello All!
I'm repairing a leeking stem cap on my 1964 Cruisers 17. At first I was only going to pry back a little by the keel cap area. But then made the call to do a total removal. When you remove the puddy that covers the screws . Trying to be as careful as I can ... The screws get battered up.When you go to drive back in you feel things slipping some. The new caulk will repair the leak but structure is still not good. Better to repair with new screws all the way up. Glad I did this as once i had stem removed
I see that the keel has a small rot spot and garboard is pulling apart by 1/8 inch. A small amount of caulk then reset all nails here.
Now I'm need to locate 30 silican bronze screws.
I fixed the end of the stem with some West system epoxy.
