Bilge Pump ?

Is it necessary to install a non-return valve when putting in a bilge pump? Thanks for any help!

As long as the outlet is well above the potential water line there is no reason for it. If I remember right, when I installed mine the instructions ( I know we are not supposed to read them until all else fails) says to make sure the drain line is higher than the outlet at least once to prevent any siphoning.
