Help, no ID. anywhere!!!

Hello all,

I just picked up this boat. I have found only two possible ID markings.

The first on the steering wheel.. what remains of the sticker in the center .. just two letters.. LA

The engine controller.. MORSE

It is a fiberglass hull with wood transom, wind shield, seats.

Length: 14ft.
Beam: 6ft
Gunwale: 16ft
Transom: 5ft

Any help is appreciated..

Ok....I'll go first.
Interesting little boat. Don't think that I have ever seen a factory built glass hull boat with exposed wooden ribs in the bootom. Unless it wasn't factory built or I am seeing the pics wrong.

Hull profile looks alot like a Lyman. I read some where that the MFG company used a Lyman hull for the mold of their first production fiberglass boats only to have Lyman reject their proposal, so MFG manufactured and sold them under their own branding. MFG was/is based in Ohio.
Windshield is very Lyman looking as well.

I would get on the FiberGlassics web site. You might have better luck.

Hey Karl,

The ribs are actually made out of some molded rubbery substance.

Also the same over the bottom portion of ribs.

I have registered with FiberGlassics & hope to get more info.

Groovy boat!

I see that thru fiberglassics.com someone has suggested she is a Simmons Sea Skiff. I cannot verify or refute this suggestion.

She is not a boat made by Thompson Bros. boat Mfg. Co. or Cruisers, Inc. or T & T Boats, Inc. or Thompson Boat Company of new York, Inc. or Grady White Boats. As far as I can tell form my knowledge of these brands.

"Morse" was an after market maker of throttle/shift controls for boats.

I've been thinking about the "LA" on the steering wheel. Can't come up with anything helpful. Steering wheel makers included: Wilcox-Crittenden; Kainer; Perko; and others. Many boat builders would put their own name brand sticker in the hub of the wheel.

Hey,

I received a reply from Simmons.. "Your boat is not even close to a Simmons. Possibly a Thompson or Lyman". I am waiting for a response from MFG.

Well we know it is not a Thompson.

So, slowly eliminating builders.

If you google Lyman Boat Works it will bring up the web site.
The Guy that runs it(Tom Korkorny ?) is the Andreas equivilant for Lymans. If Lyman built he will know.
The interesting points on your boat are the use of a wooden transom as well as windshield.
A few years back I was looking at a vintage MFG boat so I did some investigating into their history. That's where I read that they built a prototype hull using a Lyman for the mold.
The bow of your boat looks exactly like the bow of a 59 Lyman that I had. More verticle than most boats of that era. I am still betting that it was based on a Lyman hull .

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I believe I have found my boat.

MFG ( The Molded Fiber Glass Boat Company)

A 1957 Cambridge with the optional rear folding seat & Mahogany framed Windshield. It was advertised with two other boats.. The Erie & The Union

The Cambridge sold for $525..The Erie for $565..The Union for $495. Wow!

Now I do not know if what I have is a replica. Does anyone know how I can or If I will never know. This is new to me.

I am very excited to have found the information.
