By the way, if you DO decide to make a go of this and want any help sanding etc. look me up. It's been a couple of years since I finished my 62' Lancer and I'm going through a bit of withdrawl.

Hey Halcyon!

I'm just up the street from you in Raymond, Maine. I can't really give you any guidance on whether to try and save her or not because everyone's tolerance for pain is different. However, if you do decide to pass up on the job I'd be very interested in the motor.

Woody, Here's how I did it. I originally planned on putting stainless rub rails outboard of the oak but the expense prevented me from doing it at the time. Judicious use of fenders have allowed me to go three seasons without any dings so I probably won't bother. Maybe as the kids get older and want ...

ajr-

I'm nowhere near Virginia but would be happy to enter data from photocopied/faxed/scanned pages if it would help. I could at least get the info into excel.

Let me know.

Last trip of summer :( Pics.

Thought you all would enjoy a picture from our last trip in the Sea Lancer for the summer. It was a couple months back but I'm just now getting a chance to post the photo. My parents, wife and son, and I all went for a very nice day trip across Sebago Lake and up the Songo River to the locks. http:/...

Well, regarding whether cpes is the end all and be all in miracle products all I can say is that from my own experiences I have had much better results thinning west systems to fit whatever the application. In my experience CPES has WAY too much solvent in it for most uses. The more solvent, the gre...

Jim- Thanks for the heads up on the good deal on 5200! With regards to cpes, in the future consider making your own by thinning regular epoxy yourself using xylene. You can customize the visocosity for whatever your application by varying the amount of solvent and do it all for a whole lot cheaper. ...

Restore or Refurbish???

A recent thread in the restoration section got me to thinking about the differences in how we each approach a boat repair. I tend to be of the refit or refurbish school of repair and I enjoy giving my projects an individualistic and hopefully creative flair. I am also not against using modern materi...

...Modifying a boat is up to the individual owner. I personally like to see a restoration of a boat, car, plane or what have you, back to what was the original specs, design and features when ever possible. That is why it is called retoration. Well said Phil, and pretty diplomatic too! The differen...

Faux planking can be done as Capt. Dan suggested. I experimented with a different method on my recent SeaLancer project. I epoxied mahogony faced plywood on top of the new plywood deck and then used a circular saw with the blade set very shallow to score seams. After sealing with cpes and staining t...

Well I should have listened to the voice of experience (namely John). As it turns out I pressure tested the gearcase after having the driveshaft smoothed and installing new seals and found no leaks. After re-installing the lower and running the outboard I am still getting the gray oily gunk from the...
