Thanks for the advice,I Dont mind making errors and starting over.I should of done some research from boat builders but one would think a carpenter would have had a better understanding of wood products. The average person like myself wouldn't have a clue as to the differences in woods .Same for the ...

Well for what its worth, i was told by a carpenter friend that i could use any hardwood plywood on my boat as long as i seal both sides and the edges with stain and varnish to seal out any water. Is it safe to say that marine plywood adhesive holds up longer and better with all the flexing a boat doe...

well that great looking stain job i did turned out bad.The stain(minwax) seems to have never dried and kind of gummed up.I put 2 coats on it 2 days apart in 70 degree weather.I did not sand between coats. The wood i used is a hard wood plywood that looks like birch wood.(box store best) It didnt have...

this stuff was spread out from the bolt hole and onto the keel just like you would spread an epoxy or caulking but it is not soft at all and it almost looks like a cast metal of some sort.Must be some thing the former owner did.I was just curious more than any thing..Thank you folks..

Thanks folks,.the boat thats on it now is a fiberglass boat and i thought maybe a wooden boat is better off resting completely flat.Looks like i can change out the bunks easy enough. It has 4 center rollers for the keel to rest on.Free trailer allows me to spend money on the boat itself. Thanks again ...

Keel bolt holes filler?

Did Cortland built boats fill the bolt holes of the keel with lead?I was probing the keel (before i flip the boat) to see what i may need and i noticed a few bumps so i picked at them and it looks like lead. Its not rotted bolt heads because the pieces are wider than the bolts and were spread onto th...

stain brand

I think i goofed (again) I went ahead and used a red mahogany stain on the new deck and windshield framing of my 1960 sea lancer and it came out looking beautiful. The problem is i used Minwax brand stain and then read up on the hard luck storys of getting spar varnish to adhere to it. Any one got a...
