Re: Sealing joints
Thanks Phil, I will have to look for the string. I need to experiment with the shape of the strips. The router bit I purchased has the matching profiles. I made some strips out of pine to test. The strips on the inside are really tight but there was a full 1/16 on the outside where the curve is the ...

Re: Sealing joints
Phil, do you think that when they built these cedar strip boats at the factory, that there were gaps between most of the strips at the area between the bottom of the boat and the side of the boat? The area on the back half of the boat where the hull is rounded. I made some test strips for my boat an...

Re: My Apology
I personally found it very helpful to see links to Craigslist or eBay advertising boats for sale. This is a normal practice on several forums which I subscribe too. Don't understand what the issue is.

That will be a nice size shed and shop. I was in a friends shop last winter and they had in-floor heating. I could not believe what a difference it made in how warm it made everything in the shop. Just having the warm floor warms everything from the bottom up. My shop with the forced air heater is n...

I am working on mid 40's TVT. Mine has varnish over all the screw heads on the rub rail and dash trim. And also on the copper and brass nail heads on the deck. The screws that were left exposed on the varnished areas were slightly countersunk and not filled. It would be impossible to keep the slots ...

Keel replacement
The keel on my cedar strip TVT is in need of replacement due to rot. Has anyone tackled this one before? I don't think steam bending a new one will be a problem, but I am not sure how to get the shape right. Should I try to cut some of the bevel before I bend it or do that after? The bevel does not ...

I made my first attempt this weekend at steaming new ribs. I was using white oak with a mix of different grains. After 20 minutes in the steamer, you could bend them in any direction without any problem. The key seemed to be to have the steam chamber over 200 degrees before putting the rib in and th...
