Re: what does the future hold?
Have not been on this site for a while. I have used Snapfish when I posted. That is not direct posted pictures, but you can sign up free and use the site to post your photos there and it's free. My photos are all still there as linked on the Thompson site and still accessible. http://www2.snapfish.c...

Re: Motor Controls for 18 hp 1957 Evinrude Fastwin
Hello, I have three of those vintage motors. Have not run them in years or had them apart, but as I best remember, yes they do not always shift smoothly when not running. The shifting dogs must line up before they will engage. If you turn the prop while pressing the shift handle it should drop into ...

Re: Bench testing '63 Johnson 75
The system has a built in safety logic, it's the throttle and shift control. The shifter must be in neutral and the throttle position must be at an idle speed (below the Start position). If you are outside this range, it should not crank. The ignition loop from the key switch passes thru the shifter...

I would start with the basics. Disconnect leads to the starter motor and apply 12 volts directly to the starter motor. If it is energized and runs you now eliminated it as the problem. I had that as a problem with my 1963 Evinrude Starflite 75 hp this last summer. I removed it took it apart and clea...

Hi Jim West Marine and Rockler woodworking stores in the Pittsburgh area carry it in stock, but only white. West Marine will order in a color. Google the stores close to you, surely Port Clinton, Indianapolis, Cleveland, thought I saw one in Maumee. They are all good drives I assume. I recently boug...

Joe; Appreciate the photos. What type of cutter? Where available? I am assuming that you are cutting into the blunt end of the sawed rib from the bottom of the sloped guides to the top. I assume you fabed the fixture on the bottom of the grinder, did you make that from scratch or did you rework somt...

Project Update
After several months of pain & agony over the project and way too many distractions the new transom and most rib repairs are installed. The weather did catch up with me so the project will now come to a stop. The fabrication of the transom was a real learning experience. Fabricating the multi-pi...

Replacing transom and ribs
To my new Thompson Boat Club associates. My name is Ron and I live in Pittsburgh PA. I’m a 72 year old retired engineer. I’m probably not the oldest rookie in the Thompson restoration community but I maybe the one having owned the same Thompson boat the longest. I bought my Cortland NY Seacoaster, n...
