Descriptive names......

Some years ago after a couple of years of "begging" by the kids, a friend of mine got a boat. (Yes this is a TRUE anecdote, actually my own experience). He put a lot of effort into getting the craft all fixed up, it really looked new, even though it was powered by a "white" Merc ...

Jim, I have been using Pettit Copper Bronze 1933. I have had good results with it. I did have some poor adheasion over an area that was epoxyed on keel cap but other than that very good results. It keeps its color and trailers well. Two part epoxy repair materials include a large amount of wax. Thi...

Is there anything I should watch out for? I have a manual explaining how to do it but it is not real clear. any comment...

Every block is different. Some have a pipe-plug in the drain on the side of the block. Some have a T-Valve installed. Volvo used engines from several builders, they vary! You should use anti-freeze. The greatest benefit for the block is to prevent corrosion in the block and exhaust manifold cooling ...

Inteligence and Freedom in America

Numerous lakes do not allow 2 stroke engines any longer. Lake Tahoe is one example. This is a trend that is spreading. So, our old outboards are being aced out of some areas. Andreas I stand corrected. This could (and I sure has) lead to a very strong debate. For example, in the regulated automobil...

Similar power is fine.

That merc 140 was rated originally at 150. They changed it to 140 when the v6 came out. How bad is it what is the problem. The powerhead is rebuildable with all new bearings and tender loving care for about $1000. Contact Wayne Canino (usually has a block for sale on Ebay) It is a fine motor for tha...

Honda sounds good. What about vintage Homelite?

I have not heard of existing motors being banned from lakes. I have heard of some lakes using "biodegradable oil". Mercury has it for special order. As far as motors go, the Honda 45 should perform very similar to the Triumph triple. The methods of rating power has changed over the years s...

1961 Thompson handling and outboard

The HOOK is the root of the problem. I have experience with this on a 1958 Thompson 17 foot. The boat feels like it is steering on a pivot located forward forward. The boat feels like it rocks from side to side, at speed (28 mph on up). The hook is LIFTING the stern, shifting the trim loads forward ...
