Thompson Water Skis
I received this old set of Thompson skis as a gift from an elderly man who said he worked at the Thompson factory in the 1950's. I met him at the Austin, TX boat show about 10 years ago. He liked my 1959 19' Off Shore and I am glad I had the only Thompson at the show. I think these are very old due ...

Re: Year and model help
Got any pictures? If the bow has a wood border about 6 inches wide around the perimeter of the foredeck it is a 1961, If the decks are completely covered in vinyl then it is post 1961. All natural deck would be 1960 or earlier.

1963 22' Thompson Sea Lane Cabin
A few photos of the top of the line Thompson in 1963, rarely seen. I know of only one other. This boat was sold new in June 1964 with twin Johnson 75 motors and Balco trailer in Ventura, CA for $5500. Was converted to 120 HP OMC I/O in 1967 and I repowered with Volvo 145 HP in 2007. Purchased from o...

Re: 1959 Off Shore
Just completed the re badge of my 1998 Honda 90 to look more vintage on my 1959 Off Shore. I had seen a Suzuki that was made to look like a vintage 1950's mercury that turned out very well. I found a very nice 1964 Johnson 100HP hood on ebay for $100 and removed the metal name plates from the sides ...

1959 Off Shore
I am refinishing the fore deck on my 1959 Thompson 19' Off Shore after 13 years of service with Smith's Five Year Clear. This is a custom mahogany striped deck like you would see on a Chris Craft. Also I am repainting the Honda 90 to match A vintage 1960's Johnson motor hood, matching the paint sche...

Boat name
Yes I think all boats, classic boats that is, should be named. How else you gonna keep track of them? My 1959 Off Shore has room on the starboard transom for the name " Leviathan" and below that the year "1959". The swim platform is on the port side. MY 22' Sea Lane cabin has the...

Repower of 1964 20' Cruisers, Inc. Vacationer model 1502
The model 1502 is the I/O model of the outboard version. I bought this 1964 model in St. Louis last summer. It had Mercruiser 150 but the outdrive had some problems and I didn't want to rebuilt such an old unit although the engine ran fine, no tilt or trim either. I had good luck with a previous Vol...

Homelite Ownership Experiences
I have owned two Homelites and had them mounted on classic boats. The first was a 1965 mounted on a 1962 Cruisers, Inc 18" Seacamper. Although the motor was in great condition and I had the lower unit checked out it seemed to have a harmonic vibration at cruising speed. At idle or full throttle...

in defense of yellow hulls
When I first saw the lemonade color of Thomspon Sea Lancers in the catalogs on CD I just couldn't understand how this color was the standard color of the most popular seller. Later I had the chance to restore a 1963 Sea Lancer and I ordered the lemonade paint from Kirby. I couldn't believe how great...
