The theory I have heard is inboard boats tend to walk to starboard in reverse and so when manuvering towards the dock drivers of inboards would prefer to see over the starboard side to monitor how close they are to the dock. When outboards and I/O's came into favor it just stuck. Now, I am not sure ...

Wooden Boat Magazine
I was flipping thru Wooden Boat Magazine and as always I cut right to my favorite part, the section called Launchings and Re-Launchings. For those of you who are not familure, this is where they show photos and a little blurb about wood boats that have recently completed construction or re-construct...

My "Expert" Opinion
So I rock the boat at both ends of the spectrum. I have a 58' Thompson and 2002 Mastercraft Prostar 209. One has 50 hp where I have to mix the gas and oil and one has 335 hp Northstar with EFI where a computer adjust my air to fuel ratio depending on what elevation I am at. One has a AM radio with a...

Jim - Just in case you wanted to try some varnishing on something other that your boat, The Center For Wood Boats on Lake Union in Seattle offers a Varnishing and Brightwork class (amongst others) and I have heard some good reviews. I am signed up for the Sept 15th-16th session in hopes of getting s...

John - Are you by chance still looking for the step pads. I had bought a set off of e-bay and they were much smaller than I expected. They are a bit pitted but the rubber is in good shape. I just bought a new old Thompson that has a nice set on it so I no longer need them. Let me know and I would be...

I am getting ready to replace the flooring in my boat with plywood and Nautolex Vinyl. Is it safe to assume that when the vinyl was installed wrapped the vinyl over the edges of each of the floor panels and then each panel is then screwed down? Did you treat the marine plywood with CPES first or is ...

Thanks all for the comments and advice. I am quickly starting to buy into the idea of a major overhaul. I have always been curious about bending wood, sounds like now I have a great reason to learn. Over the next couple weeks I am going to continue to remove the front seats, outboard, hardware, wind...

One other item. When I mentioned that the bilge is dry I should have been more specific. When I peaked thru the opening in the floor back by my bilge pump, the bilge is dry. I get a feeling that somewhere, forward of the small opening in the floor, the bottom has been caulked to the framework thus cr...

That's what I thought but I was a little shocked by what I found and needed a reality check. Thanks guys. While this is surely going to be more work that I intended I certainly plan to go about the repairs to in proper fashion and do not plan to cut any corners. It took 40 years to get the boat in t...

Link has been fixed for pictures
It was pointed out that the link required a password to sign in. The link below should allow you to click on the view slide show. My main question how big of an issue is this and how does one slide a new rib in and how does one bend them? Thanks for your help. Trey http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareL...

Finally Gettting Started And Trouble Already.
After a year of distractions at work I am finally getting started on my Thompson Restoration. It is a 17' 1960 Sea Coaster. About 8 months ago I had planned on pulling out the back seat and floor to get some info for AJR on his 1959 restoration. Well AJR has finished (and sold I think)that boat and ...
