I'm not sure how your transom originally looked, but the transom on my Grady White had horizontal Mahogany planking on the outside and vertical Mahogany planks on the inside with one horizontal plank at the bottom. The interior planks had chamfers on the edges of the boards. When I replaced the tran...

Andreas,
What do you think of "Gorilla Glue" in a laminating application like this? I have found that in other applications it's a little ornary, but strong as heck.
Just wanted to learn from your experience.

Thanks- Ray

I can appreciate what you are going thru. I had every intention of just making repairs to the transom on my Grady White and then using it as a "Fun Boat" while I worked on my other restorations. That was two years ago. The boat now has a new transom, sister keelsons, Misc. framing and ribs...

Take a look thru your local Craigs List. You might be able to score something there.
I would guess that a 120 Mercruiser would be a nice choice.

Good luck.

I just found two cents so I thought I'd toss it in. I too have Wooden boats and a Fiberglass boat. Nothing too exotic on either front. The Sylvan is a deck boat that I got a very nice deal on and now all my in-laws can go out together on one boat and enjoy an afternoon. It is dependable, comfortable...

Rich, In case you don't want to go with a chemical stripper, I can recommend that a heat gun/scraper technique works well. I have curious dogs and I was concerned with chemicals dripping and the pooches getting into it. I use a Wagner 2 speed heat gun and an assortment of quality scrapers. Both the ...

OK- Here's my two cents. I believe that all boats have personalities, and their traits become obvious quickly. That could be an infulence to someone (not necessarily the owner) for an acceptable name. I bought a Sylvan Deck Boat last year and we ended up naming it "Joan-Anna, The Mother Ship&qu...

I followed the steps Andreas suggests when I replaced the transom on my Grady White. I duplicated the planking pattern, but sandwiched a piece of 1/2" marine plywood between the planks. I used West Epoxy to glue the outside boards on and TiteBond III on the inside boards. I glued the outside pl...

Thanks gentlemen. I'll work on the pictures. I was surprised to see that the transom pretty much ripped itself apart on the boat. All the glue joints had failed and 75% of the screws were broken due to the expansion of the Mahogany planks in a cross direction. I have no idea why the motor didn't fal...

Grady White Verification

I have boughten a boat that is registered as a 17', 1964 Grady White. There were no badges or identification tags on the boat and the interior has been removed and replaced with two back to back vinyl seats. The only identification I have found was a serial number stamped twice on the interior of th...
