I committed to a full plank off restoation of my 1958 Cruisers Inc 18'. I too have tried all of the above methods of screw removal. What turned the corner for me was the Porter-Cable PC250MTK 2.5 Amp Oscillating Multi-Tool: 1. I pry (most) of the putty off of the screw heads in about 5 seconds by us...

Shorten the lapstrakes/ keel vs. repair the screw damage?

Gentlemen, I've just pullded the transom off of my 58 Crusiers Inc 502 Vacationer. The ends of the lapstrakes have the swiss cheese effect from the screws being removed. Are there any pitfalls to be aware of if I cut this damaged wood off; shortening the overall length? Does this affect the taper of...

I've been experimenting on the screw removal as well. I've been dobbing the screw head w/ paint stripper to soften it up. 20 or so at a time................

1958,18' 2"Cruisers Inc 502 Vacationer Restoration Und

I've set up a photo log at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/classicoutboards/photos/album/1566640386/pic/list?mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=asc Andreas, the hull number is 9 G9026. The title says it's a '58, so I thought the 9 in the hull number is conflicting. I'll add more pics as I ...

Lapstrake plank removal/ restoration questions

I'm "flipping" my 18',58 Cruisers Inc. on Saturday (I think....). The boat was garage kept (in Seattle of all places) by the original owner for 50 years. I brought it back to Northern California. After poking around from stem to stern, there is no (detected) rot at this point. John, I'm ta...

Great gauges!

I have them on my boat. I would appreciate a copy of the zip file.
bjonson@sbcglobal.net.
Are they still for sale?
Thanks,
Bob

How do you store (3) engines for 2 to 3 years?

I have a 59 Cruisers Inc 502 18 foot that I have torn apart. I also have twin 58 35 hp Evinrudes Larks that came with it, and I just bought (yesterday) a 57 Johnson 35 hp Javelin Gold edition (I'm still on the prowl for another one). All are in great shape and run on the fitst pull. I'm not going to...

Similar motors to get parts from for 1958 Evinrude Lark 35

I know that the 35 platform has been used for many years. However, I m not sure what years would be a "bolt on and off" replacements to use as parts for my 58's. Any guidance would be helpful.
Thanks,
Bob

Cruisers Inc windshield removal?

I've got '58 502 Vacationer. The port and statrboard sections appear to be screwed in from the top down, under the glasss. Does this mean that it has has to be disassembled in place? The front was screwed from the bottom up. Once these come off, I'll be ready to flip it (I built a pretty cool cradle...

Ok! OK! I'll keep the Larks

Due to an onslaught of feedback, I have decided to keep and restore the motors. It is a great look, but I'm not mechanical. I've posted some pics of the stern at photobucket.com/cruisersincbob
Thanks for the feedback and advice!

My new (to me) Twin 1959 Evinrude Lark Golden Jubilees

I just bought a 1958 18' Cruisers Inc that came with the above mentioned motors. I was going to sell them and put a 60 hp 4 stroke yamaha on the boat (mechanics is not my strength). Several people have informed me that these are rare motors and worthy of keeping. They run strong, and are original to...
