Re: 1958 Cruisers Seafarer

Hello everyone, just checking in to give an update. About a year ago I bought a '65 Lyncraft Seabreeze 1500. It will take some work to get on the water but I am hoping that this boat will eventually end up on the water. Some good news about my Cruiser's Inc. I will be transferring most of the chrome...

Re: 1958 Cruisers Seafarer

I just emailed Peter but I wanted to let you all know that I didn't come to this decision hastily. After finding a source for green live oak for the ribs and getting started on scarfing the laps that needed repair I started to really clean the inside and tighten all the screws, during this I started...

Re: 1958 Cruisers Seafarer

Hello everyone. While working on the boat last week I found more rot, at the front of the boat where I didn't think there was any. I found that the starboard garboard plank had slightly pulled away from the stem and there was rot on the knee on the inside. I was excited about getting back to work on...

Re: 1958 Cruisers Seafarer

Hello everyone, I haven't posted in a long time because I hadn't done much. A few weeks ago I was actually considering getting rid of this project because it had been sitting untouched for about two years. I was stuck at how I was going to repair the laps and thinking about how much other work still...

Re: 1958 Cruisers Seafarer

Thanks Phill! I will lengthen the middle lap to be scarfed so they are staggered more. I will use my sanding station (belt) for the new pieces, still trying to figure out what will work best for removing wood on the existing laps because of the overlaps and angles.

Re: 1958 Cruisers Seafarer

Haven't updated for a while but have done some work. I am in the process of scarfing in the 3 laps and replacing the transom. I bought the marine plywood and mahogany from a restorer in the area. I have a few questions for anyone who can help. 1. Attaching the laps to the transom are two rows of fas...

Re: 1958 Cruisers Seafarer

Thanks to everyone for your input. I am going to finish rough sanding the lapstrakes today. I won't sand the garboard planks until I flip her over. Next step will be to work on the inside. Going to strip the varnish and replace all the ribs, replace the transom and fix the 3 laps that need to be sca...

Re: 1958 Cruisers Seafarer

Thanks Phill, it has been good so far. I originally had a 2 to 5 year build in mind and thought I would be closer to the 2 but will probably closer to the 5. Also, being in Florida the best time to work in the garage is during the winter but I have more time during the summer so I will just sweat it...

1958 Cruisers Seafarer

Hello all, my name is Buck and I live in the central Florida area. This is the first boat I have ever owned and wow did I pick a "trial by fire" way to get into boat ownership. I have been lurking on this site for a while and trying to learn as much as possible. Thanks to Andreas for his h...
