Re: Windshield 1959 Sea Lancer

So the aluminum frame was destroyed when you tried to knock it apart? How was it held together at the corners?

Re: Summer Thompson fun

You're welcome, Joe. Glad it helped. Great picture by the way. Biggest thrill of having a boat is being able to provide fun for the kids. Verne, didn't mean to treat you like you were in first grade. When I don't understand something I like it explained to me as simply as possible.

Re: Summer Thompson fun

Sorry, I should have clarified. If you right-click on the photo, then click properties, you'll see that the photo posted is 1024 x 680 pixels. I have the screen resolution on my computer set to display 1440 x 900 pixels so my monitor, at 100%, shows the entire photo. Your screen must be set to displ...

Change the zoom level on your browser. 100% shows the whole pic, 125% shows less, 150% even less, etc.

Re: Which Type of Mahogany

The term "mahogany" has come to be a catch-all for several species of wood, some of which aren't true mahoganies at all. If you ask for mahogany at a lumber yard you may get meranti, okume, sepele, philippine or any number of other species which have fallen under the "mahogany" u...

Re: Thompson Boat Rally

It's a little too far from Seattle to Wisconsin for me to attend, but I hope everyone takes lots of pictures and posts them here!

Can't beat a day on the water!

The rain clouds parted enough today in Seattle to take the '62 SeaLancer out on Lake Washington.

Clicked on the link, took me to the site, but couldn't view your pics. Can you post the photos some other way? Or is the problem on my end?

Re: Windshield 1959 Sea Lancer

Verne - I think what you're describing is when the glass is surrounded by a wood frame. EdsBoat's glass - and mine, on my '62 SeaLancer - is surrounded by an aluminum frame. I had the same dilemna when I restored mine. I couldn't figure out how to disassemble the frame and get out the glass. Fortuna...

Re: Transom leak

My experience has been that it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to seal a leak from the inside. Whether it's a home foundation, a roof, or a boat, hydrostatic pressure is going to force the water to find it's way in. My suggestion would be to carefully examination all the seams and joints o...

I agree wholeheartedly. Everything smells better in the fall, and especially on a weekday when you have the water to yourself. Looks like it was perfect boating weather.

Karl -I don't know if it's the same stuff. I bought the walnut shells at a paint store (Parker Paint) and it's made specifically for adding to paint for non-skid applications. I was surprised at how finely ground they were in the jar but it resulted in a great non-skid surface.

For the floor in my '62 Sea Lancer, I used 1/2" marine grade plywood, painted it with en exterior deck paint to which I added walnut shells for texture. Since the deck paint was a flat finish and showed dust and dirt pretty easily, I gave it a few coats of marine spar varnish. It really popped ...

Having the pump and ram all in one unit is great. Not sure what year mine is from... I think the mid-sixties, so there's a separate motor and pump unit with four hydraulic hoses (which all need to be replaced) which run to the two rams replacing the cylinders on the motor mount. I guess I'll have to...

Wow! Peter, your motor and PTT are beautiful! Look like they're brand new! I have a period correct PTT which looks nowhere nearly as nice as yours for my '62 but haven't gotten around to installing it. Where did you mount the motor and pump unit? Oh... and how did your conversion to electronic ignit...
