To warm up, try watching the Thompson Rally DVD. It looks so warm in the video.
Here's my cold weather blog post.

Re: Green Coppernell?
I was speaking with the guy whom refinished my Sea Lancer. In the process he treated the bilge (floor line to keel) with a product he called "Green Coppernell", or maybe "Green Cuppernell". Not sure. Anyone heard of this product? How does it compare to the expoxy replacement pro...

rong - There is natural wood on various parts of my Thompsons - the seats, battery box, etc. The decking, spray rails, transom, and gunwale are stained and varnished on both. You have nothing to lose by trying to refinish the cracked areas, you can always sand and refinish everything if you don't li...

John - I never got around to dragging the boat over for AJR to inspect. So we'll have to judge from the picture. I will rub the paint but the dark stuff has to be close to when it was applied. It almost looks like a decal, but I don't want to damage it by checking. I'll clean the oxidation and reuse...

Dan, They are having problems with the fuel injection systems of cars in WI due to use of ethanol adulterated gasoline. In particular with Citgo, which I was avoiding even before Hugo spoke at the U.N. I am close enough to areas where real gasoline is available and fill my boat tanks there. The Shel...

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/9315/dscf0016editedmt4.jpg This is the blue on my '62 Sea Mate with the blue paint I had mixed by Kirby Paint for comparison. It is not clear to me if this is original or was redone when the hull was repainted. I'll let Andreas look at it in Pewaukee this weekend ...

AJR, My wife used Bix stripper to remove varnish from the outside trim from our boat. It worked well for that purpose, although we might have also used steel wool (we can't remember). There was no text or paint that needed to be preserved under the varnish, so we can't answer answer whether that wou...

I am going to strip and repaint the hull on the '62 Sea Mate I purchased in September. I will probably remove and recaulk the outer keel while she is off the trailer. I think the boat takes on too much water as it is. Everything topside is close to pristine, I won't have to do much there. Will it be...

TVT Construction - Fact or Fiction
I found the following on the internet. This is a 14' 1955 Thompson TVT Super Deluxe Runabout, this boat was found in Racine, Wisconsin. This is one of the first built in 1955 with a fiber-glass hull, glassed from spray rail to spray rail, in the specs from the thompson catalog read 14' Length 54'' w...

That's MY boat - or at least it will be later this week! It is a 1965 Thompson G1500. Only made in the 1965 model year. They were actually built at Crownline Boats under contract with Thompson. Andreas Andreas, I was following the bidding on that boat. You got a steal. I think I bid early, hoping n...
